Peloton Stuck on Downloading Update (Quick Fixes)

If your Peloton unit is stuck downloading an update, it may be resolved by the following methods:

  • Cold boot your device.
  • Check update status in the “Settings” menu.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity and available storage.
  • Factory reset the unit.

While a Peloton unit stuck downloading an update can be frustrating, it’s usually simple to deal with – just keep calm and go through your options, and the problem is sure to be sorted out in no time.

Dealing With Peloton Stuck On Downloading Update

Sometimes, it could be a random glitch interrupting the update. Dealing with this is as simple as unplugging your unit, waiting for half a minute, then plugging it back in.

Any stalled updates should be redone from scratch, as Peloton units are set to automatically update themselves to the latest version available.

Manual Update Checking

Sometimes, your Peloton system might have bugged out and end up trying to install an update it already had (or worse, a non-existent update altogether!).

To ensure this isn’t the case, try checking for update availability manually.

  • Press the touchscreen on your Peloton equipment.
  • Navigate to ‘Settings’.

  • Select “System” from the available options.
  • Check for updates under ‘About Tablet’.

User intervention typically isn’t necessary to handle Peloton firmware, but it’s worth considering if you’re having issues with stuck updates on your unit.

Troubleshooting Network and Storage Limits

If you’ve cold booted your unit and still problems issues, try rebooting your router to clear up any performance issues and other random errors from its system.

You could also try to connect your Peloton to mobile data or a different network to ensure the update goes through.

The problem may also boil down to your Peloton device hitting its storage cap, so be sure to delete any unnecessary files to mitigate the problem.

  1. Open “Settings”.
  2. Navigate to “About Tablet” (may be named differently depending on device).
  3. Select “Storage” and choose what programs you want deleted.

Advanced Solutions

If the basic troubleshooting steps haven’t worked, you do have other measures at your disposal – though there’s a reason we didn’t lead with them.

The two options below are far more time-intensive than the other recommendations, but they’re likely to get the job done when other options fail.

Factory Reset

Performing a factory reset on your Peloton should address persistent issues, but comes at the cost of returning your device to its original state.

Before proceeding, ensure that you have backed up any important information.

To complete a factory reset:

  1. Turn off your Peloton.
  2. Hold the volume up button and the power button simultaneously until the Peloton logo appears.
  3. Release the buttons, and an option to wipe the data/factory reset will appear.
  4. Use the volume buttons to select the factory reset option, and confirm using the power button.
  5. Once the process is complete, set up your device as new.

Contacting Customer Support

If even a factory reset can’t resolve the issue, the problem likely runs deeper than just firmware – it may be a hardware defect or other serious malfunction. In these situations, you’ll want to get in touch with Peloton’s customer support team ASAP.

You can find Peloton’s support team on their website, and their live chat option should be available around the clock.

While on the line, be sure to keep your device’s serial number and purchase receipt on hand. With any luck you’ll still fall under warranty coverage, making it cheaper (or even free) to get the problem addressed by the company.
